Weighting Method

Starting from August 2020, our surveys on HKSAR Government’s popularity employs a dual-frame sampling design that involves landline telephone numbers and mobile phone numbers. Sample weighting is necessary because people who have both landline and mobile numbers have opportunity to be sampled from both frames.

There are two steps of weighting. The first step is to construct a base weight using the Single-frame Estimator based on the probability of the respondents being selected from the landline and mobile sampling frames. The second step is the post-stratification adjustment of the base weight to the target population based on relevant age-sex distribution of the population (excluding foreign domestic helpers) published by the Census and Statistics Department before analysis.
