Biography
After completing her undergraduate study and research in the Faculty of Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and obtained the Bachelor of Medical Sciences (First-class honour) and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees, Dr Chan started her training in Chemical Pathology in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 2001. She also received training in urinary steroid profiling and molecular diagnosis of inherited diseases in the United Kingdom and United States. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, the Hong Kong College of Pathologists and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (Pathology). She is also a Specialist in Chemical Pathology under the Medical Council of Hong Kong. Dr Chan obtained the Doctor of Medicine degree in the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2014, with the theme of research on the biochemical and molecular diagnosis of steroid metabolic diseases.
Dr Chan started working in the Division of Clinical Biochemistry in the Queen Mary Hospital as a Consultant in 2013, supervising the Chemical Pathology service and the molecular diagnostics service. She joined our Department in 2018 and is currently in charge of services in molecular diagnostics and inherited metabolic diseases. Dr Chan has the experience with various laboratory accreditation systems, having worked in Chemical Pathology laboratories accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP). She is also a technical assessor of Chemical Pathology and Molecular Genetics of the Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (HOKLAS).

The main research interests of Dr Chan include the hormonal and genetic basis of disorders of sex development, biochemical and molecular diagnosis of congenital adrenal hyperplasia, genetic basis of inherited endocrine diseases, and clinical applications of urinary steroid profiling in various congenital and acquired adrenocortical disorders. As an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, Dr Chan teaches medical students on various topics of Chemical Pathology.
