Short Biography
In a small village called Hilversum, I grew up just as every normal kid
would do, going to school, playing football etc. As a young boy, I started to
develop an interest in everything that has to do with space. This is what
ultimately led to my focus on physics after high school.
My undergraduate years I spent at the University of Cambridge reading Natural
Sciences (Experimental and Theoretical Physics). During these years, I was also
a Blues volleyball player, awarded the Full Blues status. In 2009, I obtained
my B.A. (Hons) and MSci.
For my postgraduate studies, I returned to The Netherlands to work at the
National Institute for Subatomic Physics. The main focus of my PhD was to study
fundamental science that can be extracted from gravitational waves. Besides my
studies, I also lectured and supervised a range of courses at the VU University
Amsterdam
Prior to joining the Chinese University of Hong Kong, I was a holder of the
Rubicon Postdoctoral Fellowship from The Netherlands Organisation for
Scientific Research (NWO). This fellowship was held in LIGO Laboratory at the
California Institute of Technology.
