Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) is a carcinogenic air pollutant, mainly originating from exhausts of vehicles and electronic waste disposal. But the current Air Pollution Index in Hong Kong does not calculate the concentrations of PAHs. A research team led by Prof. Yung Pun-to Douglas of the Department of Electronic Engineering has used the molecularly imprinted polymer technique to develop a sensor to detect various types of airborne PAHs. This technology will be showcased in the Faculty of Engineering’s 20th Anniversary Innovation and Technology Fair.
