Showcase 1: Bridging experiential (study abroad) and academic learning through critical reflection and web-enhanced pedagogy (2009-12 triennium)
Introduction:
This project is a showcase of good practices in internationalization at home by extending the international learning of CUHK students through innovative teaching. The course ‘Intercultural Transitions: Making Sense of International Experience’ provided students (international students/ study abroad returnees) a medium to connect their experiential learning with academic learning. Needs analysis was conducted prior to the development of the course. Incorporated with eLearning elements, this course promoted interactive learning by encouraging students to write on a designated online discussion forum and blog. Students were therefore able to exchange deeper thoughts on these eLearning platforms. The extensive work of this project, including an annual writing contest, book writing and qualitative/ quantitative studies, is impressive. The CUHK Study Abroad Writing Contest remains an on-going annual event. A website, developed by the OAL, acknowledges the contest winners and is accessible by the public (http://www.oal.cuhk.edu.hk/cuhkstudyabroadwritingcontestwinners2019/). The project outcomes were also widely disseminated.
