TCM garment for atopic dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with increasing prevalence over the last few decades. AD is an especially common and frustrating condition, and the prevalence is increasing. The disease can adversely affect the quality of life of patients and caregivers. This project aims to design and develop the garments which contain traditional Chinese medicine to provide effective treatment of AD on patients without adverse effects. This research is in collaboration with the Institute of Textiles and Clothing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and funded by the Innovative and Technology Commission. We have employed the microcapsule encapsulation technique to provide the controlled release of the active component for the treatment of AD. Our research results had been recognized and published in various different journals. At present, clinical trial is being carried out for testing in AD children.
TCM skin care product for hyperpigmentation
Topical Agents for skin care have broad areas of utilization: from day to day cosmetic uses to special applications eg. eczema and acne. The need for research and development is always in high demand. In the ancient Chinese Courts, ladies used various special herbs to maintain healthy skin. One popular formula among the upper class was called 七白散, which remained in the market after the Qing Dynasty. Nevertheless, there is a lack of scientific evidence supporting its efficacy. Our research team will focus on this well-known and popular herbal formula from the Chinese Medicinal classics for in-depth research
Chinese medicinal materials-containing diaper
Elderly people have incontinence problem and they had to wear diaper to hold urination during their daily life. However the incontinence poses hygienic allergy and environmental problems such as unpleasant odour environment and skin allergy. Since 2015, we had obtained an Innovative Technology Commission Funding, supporting an innovative project in collaboration with the Institute of Textiles and Clothing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. This project aims to develop a novel Chinese herbal medicine containing diaper with antiseptic, anti-sweating, and de-odouring properties as well as good moisture adsorption and retention.
