Senior scientist (Satellite Oceanographer) at SIO, SOA, PRC, selected as Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2001, Editor-in-Chief of ACTA OEANOLOGICA SINICA (a journal of the Chinese Society of Oceanography), Vice-Chairman of Chinese Society of Oceanography and Member of the International Ocean-Color Coordinating Group (IOCCG) since 2000.   He has devoted himself to the study of ocean color remote sensing and simulation science. He is one of the founders of Chinese marine remote sensing, and plays a key role in the development of Chinese ocean color remote sensing and simulation science, and made great contributionto atmospheric correction algorithms, ocean color reverse models development and application, as well as to the development of Chinese ocean color satellites and sensors in spacecraft. More than 110 papers have been published in domestic and foreign journals, and conferences. 3 times of Class A and 4 times of Class B Award by the Chinese Academy of Science, State Oceanic Administration, Shanghai and Zhejiang Province Government et, respectively, Oceanography Scientific Achievement Award in Remote Sensing by the International Society for Optical Engineering in 2002, Special Grade Award of National Science and Technology Progress certificated by State Council in 2003.

Sharon Lau is the Assistant Director (Aviation Weather Services) of the Hong Kong Observatory and is also the ex-Member of the Management Group of the Commission for Aeronautical Meteorology under the World Meteorological Organization. She has over 20 years of experience in the use of remote sensing equipment such as satellite and radar in weather forecasting. She was also involved in the introduction of Doppler LIDAR for windshear detection at the Hong Kong International Airport. As the Assistant Director, she oversees the Radar and Satellite Meteorology Division and the development of new remote sensing products.
