Global China Research Programme

New ideas and paradigms are needed in research in the field of China studies to keep up with the pace and expanding scale of China’s links to the rest of the world. Building upon the solid foundation established by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Global China Research Programme was founded in September 2015 as a multidisciplinary research programme with a vision and a mission to promote research work relevant to China’s global engagement.
Our key objectives are:
To assess the economic opportunities and challenges for China and Hong Kong arising out of new Chinese government strategies and policies;
To evaluate the reception of and reactions to China’s global impact in Greater China and among China’s external partners;
To study the institutional framework and mechanisms of governance and coordination that may facilitate regional cooperation and the management of issues arising out of China’s global activities;
To examine the humanistic ramifications and interfaces of China’s global outreach with special reference to historic roots, inter-cultural exchanges, and diasporic settlements; and
To explore Hong Kong’s unparalleled role and position in bridging China and the world across all of the above areas.
At present, twelve CUHK research institutes/centres have joined hands to undertake research work particularly relevant to the theme of global China research. These institutes/centres are the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies (which serves as the secretariat of the Programme), the Asian Institute of Supply Chains and Logistics , the Aviation Policy and Research Center , the Centre for China Studies , the Centre for Global Health , the Centre for Innovation and Technology , the Centre for the Study of Islamic Culture , the Chinese Law Programme , the Institute of Chinese Studies , the Lau Chor Tak Institute of Global Economics and Finance , the Research Centre on Migration and Mobility , and the T. T. Ng Chinese Language Research Centre . We look forward to the collaborative synergy and research deliverables they achieve.
