Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology
The Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology was established in 1982 with the mission "to provide the highest quality clinical service, research, medical students teaching and postgraduate training". Its major clinical subspecialties include Hand, Sports Medicine, Traumatology, Paediatric Orthopaedics, Oncology, Spine, Rehabilitation, Joint Reconstruction, and Foot and Ankle.
Commitment to providing quality education to undergraduate and postgraduate students is the cornerstone of the Department. We contribute actively to teaching courses on musculoskeletal system and orthopaedics from Med 2 to clinical clerkship in Med 4 and Med 6. Our Orthopaedic Learning Centre, opened in 1999, has organized a variety of courses and workshops over the years for more than 8,000 professionals.
The Department has continued to expand its research around 3 main theme programs in association with clinical teams:
- Precision Orthopaedics and Innovative Technologies (POINT)
- Sports Medicine And Regenerative Therapy (SMART)
- Musculoskeletal Development, Health and Ageing Research (MDHAR)
Our research output has increased significantly over the years in both quantity and quality, and we have established extensive collaborations with other local and international departments, universities, and research institutions.
The Department's staff are committed to serving the University and society through high-quality patient care, professional education, top-notch research and community service.
