Overview
The Department of Finance is pivotally located within the Pearl River Delta region and has a mission to serve constituents within this fast developing area. It is uniquely positioned to contribute to the region’s intellectual infrastructure. This role serves in supporting the region’s established capital markets and institutions, and in contributing to the emerging fin-tech landscape. Our specialised offerings traverse a wide range of finance and investment areas, including corporate finance, China finance, asset management, security pricing, financial markets, banking and financial institutions, international finance, real estate finance, risk management, insurance, mergers and acquisitions, and derivative markets.
Our students benefit from rigorous training in applied and theoretical finance, supported by access to cutting-edge technical and hardware facilities. The Department’s strong visibility and international profile reflects faculty members’ prowess in the fields of education and research. Faculty colleagues’ success in publishing applied research findings in leading journals emphasises its important contribution to scholarship. The Department of Finance also recognises the overarching role of community stakeholders. In addition to its important connection with students and alumni, we cultivate links with leading employers, government, regulatory bodies and other internationally-recognised universities/research institutions. This function ensures that the Department’s students not only receive a first-rate education, but also enjoy access to important resources in the local, regional and international financial communities.
The department offers four undergraduate programmes, including BBA in Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis, BSc in Global Economics and Finance, BSc in Quantitative Finance and BSc in Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science. And for postgraduates, we have MSc in Actuarial Science and Insurance Analytics, MSc in Finance and MPhil-PhD in Finance. At CUHK, students can master the global financial trends by taking our master or PhD finance courses to strengthen their competitiveness in the business market. Most of our graduates have made outstanding achievements and have developed thriving careers in the financial industry and beyond.
