Programme Admission Code: ANS 1. MPhil in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care The programme is research-oriented. It involves a prescribed series of seminars, workshops, guided studies and a research project. 2. PhD in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care The programme is research-oriented. It involves a prescribed series of seminars, workshops, guided studies and a series of research investigations. Topics for postgraduate study in anaesthesia and intensive care include pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies in general anaesthetic drugs, sedatives, and antibiotics (with a focus on the effects sepsis, organ failure and organ support in ICU patients); traditional Chinese medicine; cardiovascular monitoring; quantitative ultrasonography in regional anaesthesia; perioperative health service evaluation; fast-track cardiac anaesthesia; molecular mechanisms of pain; pedagogical evaluation; intensive care outcomes (with a focus on Delirium in ICU patients); and systematic reviews and meta-analyses. We maintain a close collaboration with the School of Biomedical Science for basic science research projects. Highlighted areas in Table 1 show ongoing active research within the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. Table 1.
