QUALIFICATION FOR ADMISSION
Applicants must have a recognised Master's degree, obtained the Postgraduate Diploma in Education or equivalent education qualification, relevant working experience and demonstrated research ability (such as publication, master thesis, project report, etc.). Applicants should fulfill the "English Language Proficiency Requirement" as stipulated by the Graduate School. For students with a research master’s degree:Full-time programme: 36 months (maximum period of study: 72 months)
Part-time programme: 48 months (maximum period of study: 84 months)
For students without a research master’s degree:
Full-time programme: 48 months (maximum period of study: 84 months)
Part-time programme: 64 months (maximum period of study: 100 months)
Remark: The University reserves absolute discretion to decide whether the degree possessed by a student is a research master’s degree or not, such decision is to be communicated through the admission notification.
PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
The Ph.D. Programme in Education (Sports Science and Physical Education) is research-oriented. This programme normally combines seminars with guided independent research in an individually designed course of study under the guidance of a supervisor and two or three other advisors. The programme reflects the mission of the Department and is based on the premise that physical activity is a health-related behaviour that influences the health and well-being of individuals. It is from this perspective that post-graduate students can study physical activity and exercise using a physiological, psychological, biomechanical, pedagogical or sociological approach. Consequently, all of the research conducted in the Department is focused on physical activity in terms of its contribution to related fields of sports medicine, health and exercise.PROGRAMME REQUIREMENTS
The Ph.D. Programme in Education is research-oriented. A study normally combines seminars with guided independent research in an individually designed course of study under the guidance of supervisor and two or three other advisors. S/he may be required to enroll in formal courses of lectures within the Graduate Division of Education and in other divisions of the University as deemed necessary. AREA OF STUDY
