Message from the Dean

Welcome to the Graduate School of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Established in 1966, three years following the establishment of CUHK in 1963, the Graduate School is the first of its kind in Hong Kong. Our first doctoral programmes were launched in 1980. Today, the Graduate School is offering over 210 postgraduate programmes leading to the award of more than 6,000 postgraduate degrees and postgraduate diplomas/certificates a year.

The wide spectrum of postgraduate programmes we offer are part and parcel of CUHK’s mission as a world-class research-oriented comprehensive university. Postgraduate students are mature and intellectually prepared with correspondingly higher or more specific demands or expectations. Their commitment to a career in highly specialized fields or even lifelong scholarly pursuits is unquestionable. I am happy and confident to say that these commitments and aspirations would be well met by our programmes delivered by our distinguished faculty and research professionals.

Our annual intake of over 7,000 postgraduate students hail from many renowned universities from different parts of the world. They are an important part of the intellectual vigour and cultural diversity of CUHK. I am sure you would find the interactions, within and outside classrooms or laboratories, with other gifted young scholars from all over the world stimulating and rewarding in terms of both intellectual and personal development.

Our attentive teaching, substantial learning resources and carefully designed curricula will make your educational journey here as rewarding as it is productive. Our staff will always be here to answer any question you may have. I welcome you again on board and wish you the best in your intellectual endeavours.
