HKERA International Conference 2018

Preamble

It is our great pleasure and honour to invite you to attend the Hong Kong Educational Research Association (HKERA) International Conference 2018. It will be held at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shatin, New Territories, Hong Kong, from 14 to 15 December 2018. The Conference is co-hosted by the HKERA, the Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research (HKIER), the Department of Educational Administration and Policy (EAP) and the Faculty of Education of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

The Conference’s theme is “Equity, Access, and Diversity in Education: Theory, Practice, and Research.” In the past two decades, we have witnessed both precedented and unprecedented changes in the political and socio-economical aspects of all societies across the globe. Such changes in Hong Kong are very visible and have direct bearing on education and human development. With the changing demographic composition of students and their distribution geographically, there are noticeable achievement gaps and uneven access to post-secondary education between the privileged and the underprivileged that warrant deliberated education reforms, policy and advocacy. The quest for promoting equity, facilitating access and affirming diversity in increasingly interconnected, and pluralistic learning environments is of growing concern. The global education agenda, aspirations for learning equity, and enhanced social justice in education entail significant implications on pedagogy and teacher education across the educational landscape. This Conference will provide invaluable space and a platform for researchers, educators, practitioners, and policy makers from different parts of the world to discuss and address some of these key issues.

We cordially invite you to take part in this exciting international conference to share your views, exchanges ideas and disseminate your latest research findings with other participants. Hong Kong is one of the most cosmopolitan and vibrant cities in Asia. The Hong Kong Tourism Board describes Hong Kong as “a kaleidoscope of life, a sophisticated fusion of East and West, a city of diversity where new and old meet at every turn”. We are confident that you will enjoy your stay in Hong Kong.

We look forward to welcoming you at the Conference in Hong Kong.
