The establishment of the Chinese University of Hong Kong Jockey Club Minimally Invasive Surgical Skills Centre is a
landmark for the University's Faculty of Medicine. The Faculty's experienced surgeons have long pioneered MIS techniques,
achieving many global and Asian firsts; this world-class facility will undoubtedly give fresh new impetus to their innovative work.
As well as providing a platform for top-quality educational opportunities for MIS professionals, the Centre will
stimulate advances in technique and spearhead novel research projects. Such benefits will have an important
long-term impact on advanced surgical training throughout the Asia Pacific region.
On the MIS product front, surgeons and engineers will be teaming up to design and develop customized instruments,
devices and applications, focusing particularly on virtual and augmented reality and robotic and tele-surgery.
The Centre will further strengthen the dedication to pioneering research already shown by our surgeons.
Its opening today achieving our ultimate aim ¡V a reputation for excellence in surgical education that will be
acknowledged throughout the world.
