Message from
Professor Philip WY Chiu, Director
It is indeed my great pleasure to be appointed as
director of the CUHK Jockey Club Minimally Invasive Surgical Skills Centre. Taking up the directorship following the tremendous success of
Professor Enders Ng's leadership is indeed a challenging yet exciting task. The Centre is not a new facility to me, where I have
participated in many trainings and initiatives over recent years. I witnessed the success of its establishment and am motivated by the
potential for the Centre¡¦s future development.
The Centre is based on a multi-disciplinary platform designed for and fitted with state-of-art equipment and facilities for diverse
training. It is gratifying to see that it has supported more and more specialties over the years, and there are encouraging opportunities
for collaborating with more organizing units from different fields. Other than practical trainings, the Centre will also serve as an
excellent platform for leading-edge research and development in minimally invasive surgery. It provides an ideal setting for knowledge
exchange as well as cultivation of new ideas.
Beyond surgical-skill training, the Skills Centre plans to provide for the demand for post-graduate programs. The Centre successfully
staged a Certificate Course on Minimally Invasive Surgery in 2006/07 with positive feedback. The next step will be an advanced program
offering a higher degree for surgical professionals. With academic programs such as these, the Centre progresses towards providing
comprehensive learning opportunities.
It is an honour and a great pleasure to become the Director of the Center, and I will make every effort to oversee its development
and uphold it as one of the best surgical skills training centers in Asia.
