About Gerald Choa

Professor Gerald Choa received his MBBS and MD degrees from the University of Hong Kong, and was a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and a Fellow of the Faculty of Community Medicine. He had served as Lecturer in Medicine and Part-time Lecturer and Examiner in Medicine in HKU, Specialist of Medicine and Senior Specialist of Medicine at Queen Mary Hospital. His expertise included neurology and cardiology. He became the Director of Medical and Health Services in 1970, a post he held until he joined CUHK in 1976 as the founding Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chair Professor of Administrative Medicine. Professor Choa played a pivotal role in every aspect of the planning for the Faculty of Medicine, laying the foundation for the rapid growth and achievement of the Faculty. He was Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University from 1979 to 1981.

It was in the honour and memory of Prof. Gerald Choa that this neuroscience centre was named.
