CUHK Conferred Honorary Fellowships

CUHK held its Fifteenth Honorary Fellowship Conferment Ceremony on May 16 on campus. The following five distinguished persons had honorary fellowships conferred upon them in recognition of their remarkable contributions to CUHK and the community.

Ms. Chow Pei-fong, Therese

Ms. Chow Pei-fong, Therese is the Founder of and Solicitor at Therese P.F. Chow & Co., Solicitors and Notaries. She studied law in the UK and is also a notary public and a China-appointed attesting officer. Ms. Chow has made a generous donation in support of the establishment of the Chow Yuk Ho Technology Centre for Innovative Medicine at CUHK in 2014, and the Therese Pei Fong Chow Research Centre for Prevention of Dementia.

Mr. Fan Shi-hoo, Hamen

Mr. Fan Shi-hoo, Hamen is the Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive of Pac-Fung International Limited, a manufacturer of home textile furnishings. Mr. Fan has made significant contributions to social welfare and he cares about children from low-income families. He has been a Trustee of Shaw College since 2003, and has served as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the College and a member of the University Council since 2011.

Dr. Li Kwok-tung, Donald

Dr. Li Kwok-tung, Donald is a specialist in Family Medicine and is currently President of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. Dr. Li has made significant contribution to social welfare in Hong Kong and has devoted his professional career to promoting comprehensive primary and family healthcare in Hong Kong and internationally. He is currently the Clinical Professor (Honorary) of the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care of CUHK, and is very supportive of the development of the private teaching hospital of CUHK.

Prof. Liu Pak-wai

Prof. Liu Pak-wai is Emeritus Professor of Economics and Research Professor of the Lau Chor Tak Institute of Global Economics and Finance. Professor Liu joined the Department of Economics in 1976 and has made significant contributions to the University in his capacities as Chairman of the Department of Economics, Registrar and Pro-Vice-Chancellor. During his long tenure as Pro-Vice-Chancellor, he enhanced the efficiency of resource utilization and assisted in the establishment of the teaching hotel and academic buildings, as well as the Faculty of Law.

Dr. Akihiro Nagahara

Dr. Akihiro Nagahara is Director of JCG Finance Co. Ltd and United World Securities (HK) Ltd. With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Nagahara is dedicated to facilitating the development of the financial industry. Dr. Nagahara has a strong sense of social responsibility. He is a Director of Hong Kong and Macau Taiwanese Charity Fund Limited, and is a staunch supporter of CUHK and especially the New Asia College. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees and the Investment Sub-Committee of the College.

Festive Greetings with Care and Love

On 28 May, a group of volunteers from CUHK • Care Social Service Team went to visit elderly people living alone in Choi Wan and took them rice dumplings to celebrate the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival.

The visit is organized annually by Yang Memorial Methodist Social Service and it was the fourth year in a row that CUHK • Care has taken part in this social service. Over half a day, CUHK volunteers, wearing the Team’s signature bright yellow vest, paid visits to more than 100 elderly people in their homes to deliver the gifts and have warm a chat with them to understand their living condition.

Founded in 2013, CUHK • Care Service Team comprises students, staff, alumni and friends of CUHK. The team aims to bring together CUHK members’ time and capabilities to contribute to our society through the University’s benevolent, humanist culture. All are welcome to register as a member of CUHK • Care Service Team.

Capture Green on Campus

The Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change (MoCC) of CUHK recently hosted the Eco Tour Photo Contest to encourage the public to experience the beauty of nature along CUHK’s eco-tour trail and promote a green lifestyle.

The contestants were categorized in two groups, “Open Group” and “Student Group”. More than 200 entries were received, capturing both the beauty of the natural scenes on campus and people enjoying the physical harmony of the surroundings. Now a total of 43 selections, including winning entries in the contest, are on display until 30 August 2016 at MoCC for public view.
