CUHK held its 76th Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees on 20 November. Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President gave a speech, titled ‘Our Leaders of Tomorrow’ to the graduates. He quoted the words of Pope Francis to encourage them to be humble, to be knowledgeable and visionary, and to be inclusive. He also appealed to the younger generation to sow the seeds of faith, optimism, love, understanding, pardon, hope and peace.

This year, a total of 6,414 Master’s degrees and 3,385 Bachelor’s degrees were conferred at the congregation. On the same occasion, Prof. Sung officiated at the Inauguration of the Choh-Ming Li Professorships and presented awards to outstanding teachers and researchers.

The 21^st Joint University Mass Dance made CUHK its second stop on 5 November. Dancing teams from 10 universities in Hong Kong gathered in front of the Beacon to let their feet go. The powerful moves and energetic beat fired up the University Mall. As the party hosts that day, CU Freshman Team, CU Current Team and CU OG Team presented three hot shows that took everyone’s breath away.

Started in 1994 with just three universities, Joint University Mass Dance has now become an annual event for dancers across 10 local universities. To give the best performances, the dancers devoted themselves to an intense training period of more than 10 hours per week for over two months. During the show, CU Freshman Team with 80 members, made the most passionate and energetic moves while the CU Current Team members challenged themselves with the trendiest steps, and won thunderous applause with their fantastic performance.

The University has just released two newly designed items at the Souvenir Counter, namely, a USB memory card and magnetic bookmarks.

With 8GB storage drive, the compact USB memory card has images of campus buildings on one side, and graphics of the commonly seen greeneries on the other. There are three designs to choose from. In addition, the attached phone strap goes along easily with your key chains.

As for the magnetic bookmarks, there is a set of five. Each side of the bookmark presents images of various architectural features in the campus, such as Science Centre, Gate of Wisdom, University Entrance, Pavilion of Harmony, the Water Tower, Lake Ad Excellentiam, University Library and statue of Dr. Choh-Ming Li. The beautiful scenes will certainly make your reading more enjoyable.
