Canoeing, sailing, wind surfing… exciting water sports cool down the summer heat. CUHK Water Sports Centre offers its students, staff and alumni the chance to experience these fun-filled activities during the summer holiday.
The Centre started operation in 1986. Facing Tide Cove (or Sha Tin Hoi), the Centre has a generous stretch of open water for its users. Open throughout the year, the Centre not only provides rental and storage services for the sports gear of experienced players, but also offers various training courses for inexperienced new comers. Every CUHK member, together with their friends and families, has the opportunity to enjoy the fun of water sports here. In addition, tailor-made training courses for groups are also available on early request and prior reservation.
Water sports can be energy-consuming. You can refuel by booking a BBQ pit at the Centre and definitely end up the fun day on a delicious note.

In the early morning of July 14, the University Mall was bustling with the sounds of good cheer. Over 1,500 CUHK members came and sat on the ground to watch the World Cup Final in front of a giant screen set up under the Science Centre.
Through the screen, each shot at goal raised the audience’s excitement. Their continuous cheering and sighing composed a unique symphony that played throughout the night.
Adding to the spirit of the occasion, Prof. Ma Ngok, Mr. Ivan Choy Chi-keung, who acted as the guest commentators and Alumnus Mr. Allan Au Ka-lun, the MC of the event, lightened up the atmosphere with lively and humorous comments. Prof. Sung, Vice Chancellor of CUHK, even showed off his football skills with the CUHK Soccer Team and gave out his autographed footballs in the lucky draw session.
Let’s take a look at highlights of the World Cup fever at the University Mall!
