Scholarship for Overseas Students to Study at CUHK | Financial Support, Application for Admissions

  • The Chinese University of Hong Kong offers rich scholarships for overseas students to study in research postgraduate programmes and master's programmes at the University. Prizes and awards are also available for students with outstanding academic and non-academic performance.
  • In addition to tuition fees, the Scholarship for Overseas Study offered in CUHK also covers the living expenses during the course of study, as well as the return airfare. Short-term overseas studies for undergraduates, overseas postgraduate studies, cultural studies and a list of other learning activities are eligible for the scholarship best fitting their needs.
CUHK - Scholarship for Overseas Study, Scholarship for Local Study, Fellowship Scheme and Studentship Scheme

Apart from the Scholarship for Overseas Study, CUHK also grants scholarships on the basis of not only outstanding academic performance, but also other criteria including financial need, sports performace, extra-curricular activities, community services and personal qualities.

The Postgraduate Studentship Scheme is designed for all full-time research postgraduate students, who have to carry out important research tasks and take the administrative and teaching responsibilities at the same time. The Postgraduate Studentship Scheme covers the normative study period of the postgraduate study. The amount of annual studentships is more the USD 25000, with no separate application procedure required. Besides, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme aims at attracting the best students with master degree or bachelor degree from other parts of the world to pursue their PhD studies in CUHK. The Fellowship Scheme is established and managed by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, and it covers a maximum period of three years, for students’ monthly stipend and conference travel allowance, of around USD 3000 and USD 1500 respectively. On top of that the Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong also award a first year tuition fee waiver under the Scheme.
