Human noroviruses are a large family of viruses and are leading causes of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in all age groups worldwide. They have replaced rotavirus as the most common causes of AGE in children. Our research team is committed to studying molecular epidemiology and pathogenesis of human noroviruses. We have established a surveillance system in hospitalized AGE cases in Hong Kong to untangle norovirus genotype distribution among children and adults and to monitor emergence of novel strains. This will form scientific foundation for vaccine strain selection in the region. We are also working on teasing out host interactome of norovirus structural proteins. This will better our understanding on disease-causing mechanism of noroviruses with insights into antiviral drug intervention.
