The Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was pleased to receive sponsorship from the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) to co-organize the 2nd ICGEB Workshop on “Human papillomavirus: From Basic Biology to Cancer Prevention”
The workshop aims at providing a platform for sharing knowledge and research advances on human papillomavirus in relation to cancer development, detection, epidemiology & prevention. It covered a wide range of topics including viral replication & life cycle, functions of oncoproteins, genome & RNA modification & regulation, HPV testing methodology & application, pathogenesis, epidemiology, cancer screening and public health issues. Areas related to cervical, anogenital, oropharyngeal and other cancers possibly associated with HPV were within the scope of this workshop.
There were more than 140 participants from Mainland China, overseas and Hong Kong attending the meeting. With the generous support from ICGEB, United College of CUHK and our commercial partners, this workshop was able to support more than 40 young scientists from 12 countries / cities in Asia and the regions around. The scientific and educational value of the meetings was tremendous. We believed this meeting formed a platform for the young scientists to get in touch with the invited experts and to initiate fruitful collaborations. Our special thanks go to the speakers, chairpersons, sponsors and participants for their continuous support and encouragement.
