CUHK brings Chinese music to UK
Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK led the CU Chinese Music Ensemble for the ‘East Meets West’ Music Reciprocal Tour in the UK during the Chinese New Year holidays. Supported by the Mok Hing Yiu Charitable Foundation, the ensemble performed at various places in England, including St Hugh’s College, Bodleian Libraries, and Keble College at the University of Oxford (Oxford); the British Museum; and the Fitzwilliam Museum at the University of Cambridge. The audiences were captivated by modern pieces fusing Eastern and Western influences, as well as several Chinese classics played by the ensemble.
While in Oxford, Prof. Sung also took the opportunity to visit St Hugh’s College, St Anne’s College, Pembroke College, and the Nuffield Department of Population Health to forge links in medicine and law.
The Chapel Choir of Keble College will return a visit to Hong Kong in March 2017. A lunchtime concert is scheduled on 20 March at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall on CUHK campus.
