Clare Hall Visiting Fellowship Programme at the University of Cambridge

(For CUHK Faculty Members)

Established in 1966, Clare Hall is a constituent college of at the University of Cambridge (Cambridge). It welcomes individuals to join its community as research fellows, visiting fellows or postdoctoral members, offering prestigious opportunities for professional growth. It hosts the largest programme for visiting academics at Cambridge, welcoming approximately 50 visiting scholars each year.

The Clare Hall Visiting Fellowship Programme welcomes visiting fellows from diverse nationalities and academic disciplines, offering a valuable opportunity for fostering academic exchange and building up research networks. Selected fellows conduct research at Clare Hall for six to 12 months.  Fellows from all academic disciplines are welcomed. Visiting fellows live on the grounds of Clare Hall and engage in a variety of activities with other fellows, including colloquia, seminars, special interest groups, and meals. The fellows become Life Members and are welcomed back to participate in college life.

The Fellowship Programme is now inviting applications for 2026-27.

 

Eligibility

  • Full-time teaching appointees of Assistant Professor rank or above who have served at the University for at least one year are eligible for application.
  • Applicants should have made connection with a host department most closely related to their work and seek their invitation/support for hosting them as a visiting fellow during the proposed period. 

 

Scope of Support

The following provisions will be provided by CUHK to the selected fellow:

  • Salary at CUHK (provided on the basis of leave entitlement and on leave granted)
  • Accommodation in a one-person studio flat at Clare Hall
  • Weekday lunches and dinners at Clare Hall

 

Leave

Selected fellow(s) are expected to spend a minimum of six months and a maximum of 12 months during September 2026 to August 2027 at Clare Hall under the programme. They should apply for their own accumulated leave and academic leave (or sabbatical leave if applicable), and/or no-pay study leave to pursue the fellowship programme.

 

Application

Applicants should submit the internal application form to the Office of Academic Links (oal_schemes@cuhk.edu.hk) by 3 December 2025 (Wednesday) for consideration by a central panel at CUHK. Selected applicant(s) will be notified by mid-December. They should then submit an online application along with three reference letters, an invitation letter from the host department at Cambridge, and other supporting documents for consideration by the Clare Hall’s Fellowship Committee. The full application to Clare Hall is due on 5 January 2026 (Monday). Applicants who submitted applications in October do not need to re-apply.
