
This digitized collection of Hong Kong early books, textbooks, periodicals, and posters provides access to Hong Kong content collected by the Chinese University of Hong Kong Library in the past decades for teaching and research purposes. Following proper copyright clearance, more items will be continually added to this online platform for archiving and open access. As of October 2023, the various types of items are as follows:
Hong Kong Books – consist of over 1700 titles covering a variety of subjects, including history, culture, science, and literature. This collection features works by the renowned writer Xiao Si, as well as publications from Hong Kong's first new literature institution, Shou kuang chu ban bu. Additionally, it includes publications from Union Press, World Today Press, and Film Biweekly Publishing House.
Hong Kong Early Textbooks – contain 120 titles in various subjects including mathematics, languages, geography and history textbooks mainly for primary and secondary schools published from 1930s to 1970s. The collection also includes textbooks published by the Governor’s Office of Captured Territory of Hong Kong during the Japanese Occupation and textbooks Chinese Readers for Use of Hong Kong Schools.
Hong Kong Periodicals – contain 13 titles in a wide range of subject areas, including a complete version of Contemporary, Zuguo, The Seventies, The Nineties, Da ren, New Asia journal, Democratic review and Da lu.
Hong Kong Posters – include over 70 posters printed from the 1920s to 1990s covering various topics such as travel, Government publicity and commercial advertisement.
