IEEE/ACM International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE), is the premier software engineering conference sponsored by ACM SIGSOFT and IEEE. ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Awards are designated to recognize the outstanding research in the conference. It is a testament to the high significance and quality of the awarded papers. There were 23 papers awarded ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Awards in ICSE 2025, among the 245 accepted papers of 1,150 submissions.
Shuzheng Gao is a 2nd-year PhD student in the ARISE lab under the supervision of Prof. Michael R. Lyu. He completed this research in collaboration with two alumni ARISE lab members, Cuiyun Gao and Wenchao GU. The awarded paper “Search-Based LLMs for Code Optimization” focuses on an important research topic of improving program execution efficiency in software engineering. It explores the optimization process from a search perspective and proposes to enhance LLMs with search-based methods for identifying efficient optimization methods in the vast search space. It achieves significant improvements compared with baseline methods across different LLMs.
