Professor Joseph Lau Scholarship
Innovative Initiative Project for College Development

Background

Being Founding Master of Lee Woo Sing College for 15 years, the late Prof. Lau always encouraged students to contribute to the college development through their creative ideas. To sustain his wish, the College establishes this scholarship to award students of Lee Woo Sing College who are committed to college development through actions.

Aims

  1. Encourage students to contribute to the college development through creative ideas
  2. Enhance the culture / environment of the college
  3. Equip students with organizations
  4. Strengthen students’ sense of belonging

Eligibility

  1. Open application for all students of Lee Woo Sing College
  2. Individual or a team of two students

Scheme Details

Interested participants, who are students of Lee Woo Sing College, shall be encouraged to design, organize and execute a creative idea that will help to contribute to the college development. We expect that the content and scope should demonstrate the core values of the college, including sustainability, caring, positivity and harmonious relationships. Subject to stringent evaluation by the selection panel, the College will provide financial and other necessary support to successful candidates, at the maximum of $30,000 per project.

Deadline of Proposal Submission: 3 March 2025 (Monday)

Subsidy and Requirement

  1. Each project will receive subsidy at the max. of HK$30,000.
  2. Awarded individual or group will receive the subsidy according to the following timetable.

1st instalment of funding:

The completion of a workshop on project and financial management

2nd instalment of funding:

Submission of progress reports which are endorsed by the Student Life and Development Committee

3rd instalment of funding:

On reimbursement basis, submission of all reports and reflection journals which are endorsed by the Student Life and Development Committee

  1. Upon completion, awarded individual or group should submit report, financial report, video clip and original receipts within one month.
  2. The award recipients must attend the award presentation ceremony, or they will lose eligibility for the award
  3. The award recipients may be required to meet with the donor to share their learning experiences at CUHK.
  4. The Award will be administered by the College Office of Lee Woo Sing College in accordance with the above regulations.

Additional Award

  1. Award recipients would be fully subsidized by the College to participate in the College’s short term exchange program, provided that they have completed the proposal.
  2. Graduating students should complete the proposal not later than April so that they can participate in the summer exchange program organized by the College.

Criteria

Content (25%)

  • The proposal reflects that candidates understands the development or situation of the college
  • The proposal facilitates college development
  • The proposal promotes personal growth
  • Clearly state the proposal details

Creativity (25%)

  • The proposal is unique and creative OR
  • The idea is totally new to the college that the college has not implemented in the past

Impact (25%)

  • The proposal can generate positive impact in the college
  • The proposal is sustainable

Feasibility (25%)

  • The budget is reasonable
  • The proposal is practicable
