Back with a splash at higher education conventions

Provost Prof. Alan Chan (middle) leads the CUHK delegation at the APAIE conference.
After a three-year hiatus, CUHK was back in the international higher education arena, joining the major conventions in Bangkok and the US in March and May, respectively, to promote its educational initiatives and to re-engage with universities around the world.
The Office of Academic Links (OAL) staged a remarkable comeback at the 2023 conference and exhibition of the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE), one of the world’s three major international education conventions. The University was featured at the Study in Hong Kong pavilion with other UGC-funded institutions. Provost Prof. Alan Chan chaired a panel session on the development of higher education in southeast Asia, and Ms. Shally Fan, Director of Academic Links, shared her insights and experience on utilising digital platforms for global education on a panel. Besides meetings to explore plans to enhance student mobility programmes, CUHK hosted a dinner to reconnect with partners and friends in the sector.
Prof. Alan Chan joined the APAIE advisory board to plan the agenda for the Association in the coming years and work to cement its leadership role in the development of international higher education in Asia Pacific in the post-pandemic era. He also met with the director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Bangkok and Thailand’s Deputy Minister of Education to expand CUHK’s reach in the region.

During NAFSA, International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) presents a plaque to CUHK in recognition of 40 years of partnership.
OAL also participated in the NAFSA annual conference in Washington DC in May. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the conference and it was a valuable opportunity to showcase CUHK’s commitment in international education and collaboration. The delegation reconnected with exchange partners to enhance collaboration and met with potential partners to establish new relationships. The conference was also an excellent platform to learn about the latest trends and to explore opportunities in the field.
