Enhancing global ties

The Office of Academic Links is dedicated to enhancing CUHK’s visibility and reinforcing its leadership in the international education arena. In recent months, it has coordinated Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rocky S. Tuan’s participation in several key international forums, including:

 

Social mobility and SDGs
At the Times Higher Education (THE) World Academic Summit 2024 hosted by the University of Manchester during 7-9 October 2024, over 550 delegates and 130 speakers from around the world gathered to discuss universities’ roles in driving social responsibility and transformative change. Prof. Tuan participated in the Presidents’ Forum and Leadership Reflection session, sharing his insights on how universities can foster upward mobility and address global challenges through collaboration.

AI for social good
On 29 November 2024, Prof. Tuan moderated a panel at the THE Global AI Forum hosted by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Under the theme ‘AI for Social Good: Future Proofing the World of Tomorrow’, the panel explored the ethical use of AI, its societal impacts, and its transformative potential in education and innovation.

Technology and sustainability in education
At the Association of University Presidents of China-League of European Research Universities Presidents’ Dialogue held at University College London on 13 December 2024, Prof. Tuan joined 15 other university leaders to discuss shared priorities between Chinese and European institutions. He emphasised CUHK’s commitment to integrating sustainability into education, research on green technologies, and leveraging technology to foster global collaboration.
