
Bridging minds and AI to shape the future of higher education
The summit welcomes over 50 distinguished university leaders from around the world.
CUHK supported and participated in the Global University Presidents and Leaders Summit held on 2-3 December 2024 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Organised by the Hong Kong Association for External Friendship and supported by the University Grants Committee and eight other local universities, the summit welcomed over 50 distinguished university leaders from around the world for a high-level dialogue on the theme ‘Globalization of Knowledge’. The Honorable John Lee Ka-chiu, Chief Executive of the HKSAR welcomed the guests on the occasion.
The summit featured nine dynamic panel discussions on topics such as the ethics of AI, university governance, and demographic change in education. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rocky S. Tuan chaired a session on the application of AI in addressing biomedical and societal challenges. He exchanged views with fellow panellists on the evolving role of AI in different fields and its impact on global health and society.

Participating universities also sent students to take part in the summit. The students learned about Hong Kong’s education landscape and study opportunities, and spent time exploring Hong Kong with peers from Hong Kong and around the world.
The summit also serves as a platform to promote cross-cultural engagement among youth.
