Location-based Services using GSM Cell Information over Symbian OS

Last updated:  20 Jan 2004

Abstract:

GSM mobile phones are widely used in Hong Kong. A Symbian-based mobile system is being developed so that users, with a symbian-based mobile phone, can retrieve their current location within an area. Based on this system, many useful location-sensitive application, including a Local Tour Guide and a Rail Travel Agent, can be created.

Symbian OS is a modular 32-bit multi-tasking operating system with high efficiency and excellent memory management and is well-recognized by many mobile phone companies. Developed on Symbian OS, the mobile system can be more reliable and efficient.

With a view to facilitate general programmers to make use of our approach in LBS system on Symbian-based mobile phones, we are now working on an SDK that allows users to develop LBS system in a more efficient way.
