Prof. Heng Pheng Ann and his team members DOU Qi, YU Lequan, CHEN Hao, JIN Yueming, YANG Xin, and QIN Jing won the best paper award in MedIA-MICCAI’17 with the title “3D deeply supervised network for automated segmentation of volumetric medical images”.

A research team led by Prof. HENG Pheng Ann has developed an automated image processing technology that, through deep learning, is able to offer efficient and accurate diagnosis using CT scan and histopathological images.

Nigel Nicholas (CSE), Royce Santo (MAE), Tamara Yustian and Winnie Hiyadi Liu won the HackUST 2017, a 24-hour coding competition open to all university students/ alumni in the world and is the largest university hackathon in Asia.

Mr. ZHANG Hang, Mr. ZHU Fengyuan, Mr. LI Haocheng, Prof. YOUNG Fung Yu, and Prof. YU Bei won the Best Paper Award at ACM International Symposium on Physical Design ISPD 2017. The paper entitled “Bilinear Lithography Hotspot Detection”.

Prof. Patrick Lee received the Distinguished Collaborator Award of Noah’s Ark Lab. This award is in recognition of Prof. Patrick P. C. Lee’s outstanding contribution to Huawei as the Principal Investigator in the joint Huawei-CUHK research projects from 2013 to 2016.

Leung On Yin (CS), Lee Chun Yin Sampson (CS),Tung Kam Chuen coached by Prof. Chan Siu On won a gold model in the in the ACM/ICPC Dalian Regional Contest 2016.

CE students and graduates HA Ngo Lam, KWOK Yin Lun, CHAN King Sang and LEE Yiu Hei won the 2nd runner-up in the Open Group of the “City Challenge – Bridge to a Smarter City 2016” organized by the Hong Kong Science Park.

Dr. Michael Rung-Tsong Lyu has been elected Fellow by The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) for his remarkable contributions to the theory and practice of software reliability engineering. 

CS students IP Kar Shun, SI-TOU Shun Kit, LEUNG Man Ho and LAM Wai Kwan won the champion in “Samsung Solve for Tomorrow” app development competition. The objective of this competition is to develop an App that would serve as a training tool for children with ADHD.

Mr. LAI Jintao (CE), Mr. TANG Ding (CS), Mr. ZHONG Zhuowei (CS) and Mr, Chan Pok Man (SEEM) coached by Prof. Xu Qiang won the First Prize with ” Sign Language Educator – Vision Aid Sensor Glove” in the 14th Challenge Cup.

Mr. LAI, Jintao, Mr. TANG, Ding, Mr. ZHONG Zhuowei and Mr, Chan Pok Man (SEEM) won the champion with “Sign Language Educator – Vision Aid Sensor Glove” in the “Huawei Cup 2015” Intelligent Design Competition for College Students.

Mr. GAN Junhao and Prof. Yufei won the Best Paper Award at ACM Conference on Management of Data (SIGMOD) 2015.

Mr. YAU Hing Tuen (CSE), Mr. CHUNG Yiu Ting (CS), Mr. PANG Yui Tik (PHY), Mr. TSE Kin Fai (PHY), Mr. SIT Man Kit (CE) and Mr. PUN Wing Yin (CS) coached by Prof. Xu Qiang won the 1st prize in the Asia Student Supercomputer Challenge 2015 (ASC 15).

CHOW Wing-Kai, KUANG Jian, LAM Ka-Chun, TU Peishan, LIU Chuangwen and LIU Zhiqing supervised by Prof. Evangeline F.Y. Young won the third place of the ISPD 2015 Blockage-Aware Detailed Routing-Driven Placement Contest.

Mr. NG Chak Sing won the Best Paper Award in the 23rd Euromicro International Conference on Parallel, Distributed and Network-based Processing (PDP2015). The paper entitled “DeFrag: Defragmentation for Efficient Runtime Resource Allocation in NoC-based Many-core Systems”.

Xing Wei, Yi Diao, and Tak-Kei Lam supervised by Prof. Yu-Laing (David) Wu won the championship of international ICCAD contest 2014 in the contest problem “Simultaneous CNF Encoder Optimization with SAT solver Setting Selection”.

Wong Kwun Hang, a CS student, won the gold medal in the Boccia of Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games.

Mr. WANG Liang won the Best Paper Award in the 22nd IFIP/IEEE International Conference on VLSI and System-on-Chip (VLSI-SoC 2014). The paper entitled “Dynamic Programming-Based Lifetime Aware Adaptive Routing Algorithm for Network-on-Chip”.
