Miss Siyao Guo and Miss Jianping Shi, PhD student supervised by Prof. Andrej Bogdanov and Prof. Leo Jia, have been awarded the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship 2013.

Mr. Xiaocheng HU, Prof. Yufei TAO and Prof. Chin-Wan CHUNG (KAIST, Korea) won the Best Paper Award at ACM Conference on Management of Data (SIGMOD) 2013.

A team of six engineering undergraduate students supervised by Prof. LEUNG Kwong Sak and Dr. WONG Tsz Yeung ranked 7th out of 43 teams in the Asia Student Supercomputer Challenge 2013 (ASC 13) held in Shanghai, mid April 2013.

PhD student Xiao LIU won the European Design and Automation Association (EDAA) Outstanding Dissertation Award 2012. His thesis titled “Trace-Based Post-Silicon Validation for VLSI Circuits” won the award in the area of “New directions in circuit and system test”.

CE team “Phoenix” including members LEE Koon Kit, LEE Ching Ching, CHEUNG Wan Ho and YING Peilin won the First Place in “Samsung Hope for Children App Creation Competition”.

YUE Koon Fung & LAM Hung Kei received the Merit Prize in the HKEIA Innovation & Technology Project Competition Award for students of Electronic Engineering or related engineering fields.

The bi-annual Challenge Cup is considered the premier national competition of extra-curricular technological projects of university students. Students of CUHK won the Hong Kong and Macau Cup, the sixth gold cup CUHK has got in six consecutive competitions.

Xing WEI, Tak Kei LAM , and Yi DIAO, supervised by Prof. Yu-Liang David WU won the first place of the ICCAD 2012 International CAD Contest on the topic of Functional ECO.

Xu He, Tao Huang, Wing-Kai Chow, Ka-Chun Lam, Jian Kuang, Wenzan Cai, supervised by Prof. Evangeline F.Y. Young won the second place of the ICCAD 2012 International CAD Contest on the topic of Design Hierarchy Aware Routability-driven Placement.

Mr. NG Tsz Ming won the champion in the tertiary section of “Safe and Sustainable Transportation for Tomorrow” Paper Competition which was organized by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). His paper titled “Optimized Route-Planning System (ORPS)”.

LAU Yat Tin Andy and LAU Kin Wing supervised by Prof. Jia Jiaya Leo, won the Second Runner-up in the 9th Final Year Project Competition of IEEE (Hong Kong) Computational Intelligence Chapter 2012.

Mr. Li Ping, a PhD student supervised by Prof. SUN Hanqiu, won the First Runner-up in the Postgraduate Paper Contest of IEEE (Hong Kong) Computational Intelligence Chapter 2012.

Prof. Michael Rung-Tsong Lyu, Prof. Irwin King, Dr. Hongbo Deng and Prof. Jiawei Han have been awarded the Vannevar Bush Best Paper Award for their paper, titled “Modeling and Exploiting Heterogeneous Bibliographic Networks for Expertise Ranking”.

Dr. ZHENG Zibin, a PhD student supervised by Prof. Michael Rung-Tsong LYU, has been selected as the winner of the Faculty’s Outstanding Thesis Award 2011.

Mr Jianye Hao, a Ph.D. student supervised by Prof. Leung Ho Fung, who won the 1st place as well as the “Best in Discounted Domains” Award in the third Automated Negotiating Agents Competition (ANAC 2012).

Three engineering students won the championship in the 2012 Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest – Embedded System Design Invitational Contest with their innovative design ‘Chinese Sign Language Recognition and Translation System’ for deaf mutes.

CSE ACM Programming Team came in eighth and was awarded a silver medal in the 36th Annual World Finals of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). This is the best result achieved by an institution from Hong Kong in the last 20 years.

The outstanding teams have snatched both the Championship and 2nd runner up in the IBM Inter-University Programming Contest 2012.

Prof Ada Fu, whose paper has been identified as the recipient of the Most Influential Paper Award from PAKDD 2012.

Mr. Ben Siu-Yuen Fung received the best paper award in the 10th IEEE International Conference on Trust, Security and Privacy in Computing and Communications (IEEE TrustCom-11) for the paper titled “A Privacy-Preserving Defense Mechanism Against Request Forgery Attacks”.

Dr. Haiqin Yang has been awarded the first prize in the IEEE Hong Kong Section PG Student Paper Contest 2010 for the paper titled “Online Learning for Multi-Task Feature Selection”.
