CUHK recently conducted two immersive programmes that brought together students from diverse backgrounds, enriching their understanding of regional cultures and industries.

With funding from the University Grants Committee, the pilot co-taught hybrid programme between CUHK’s Department of Cultural and Religious Studies and Yonsei University’s Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences Division of the Underwood International College was successfully conducted during March–June. This programme aimed to foster cultural exchange and provide students with a deeper understanding of local design and creative industries. Through a series of field trips in Seoul and Hong Kong, students gained first-hand understanding of the local cultural and creative landscapes, allowing them to reflect on the similarities and differences in design practices and creative industries between the two cities.

The programme did not only deepen students’ academic knowledge, but also promoted cross-cultural understanding and collaboration. By bringing students from diverse backgrounds together, the programme encouraged meaningful interactions and discussions which enhanced students’ learning experience. This pilot programme was a resounding success, paving the way for future collaborations and exchanges between the two universities.

In addition, CUHK proudly welcomed some 60 students from the Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School (NAHSS) for a 2-week immersive programme. This initiative was not just an academic exchange, but also a meaningful cultural bridge which allows NAHSS participants to better understand developments in Southeast Asia and China.

The programme featured a series of insightful lectures and sessions conducted by CUHK, the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, HSBC, and other esteemed organisations. These sessions enabled participants to explore the theme ‘Navigating Change’ by delving into various aspects of global business, cultural dynamics, and innovative practices. Beyond the classroom, the students experienced the rich cultural heritage of Hong Kong by touring the Big Buddha and Tai O fishing village.

Following the enriching experience in Hong Kong, the NAHSS participants continued their journey to Ho Chi Minh City to further explore the diverse cultural and academic landscapes of Asia.
