Student Development Portfolio showcases students’ experiential learning achievements

The Student Development Portfolio (SDP) is a university-wide electronic platform for capturing and presenting students’ Experiential Learning Activities (ELA) under the whole-person development framework namely I·CARE. It facilitates students’ viewing and choosing of the ELA organised by the University units (UELA), as well as production of reports to showcase their non-formal learning achievements. The platform also allows the University units to upload useful information and retrieve statistical reports for the sake of planning programmes and allocating resources. All full-time undergraduate students and representatives of the University units using SDP can login the system with their Student ID and Staff ID respectively. OnePass (CWEM) Password is required.

In the first term of each academic year, this Centre obtains consent of all colleges to make use of their general education class, orientation camp or extended orientation activity, monthly assembly, forum and communal dining to give a 10-minute briefing to students particularly freshmen on SDP. Although the briefing of this academic year was successfully conducted during August - October of last year, some of the sessions could only be held virtually or through a hybrid mode comprising face-to-face and online presentations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is estimated that over 3,000 freshmen took part in the briefing and the majority of them accepted the A5-sized zipped bags, which were tailor-made for promoting the SDP, as souvenirs. A shortcut to understand the SDP is an animation trailer which can be viewed from here.

One of the core functions of the SDP is producing the “Report of Experiential Learning Activities” to students for showcasing their learning achievements. Every year, this Centre issues a free copy of this report to the immediate graduates to better prepare their career development and further studies. To ensure that the graduates’ information will be fully incorporated into their respective reports, all University units that organise ELA are requested to complete all records of the UELA of its unit and upload the participants’ lists of all checked UELA of its unit to the SDP platform timely. For units that organise UELA but have not registered as a user of the SDP yet, please visit here to create account by downloading the proforma and returning the completed copy to this Centre via fax at 3942 0937 or email at sdportfolio@cuhk.edu.hk.
