Funding opportunity offered by the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet
The Eurasia-Pacific Uninet (EPU) is inviting applications for funding of joint projects between its member institutions, including CUHK. The funding aims to promote bilateral and multilateral projects between EPU members in research, research-led teaching, and technology cooperation.
Research Fields
The call for applications is open to all disciplines below:
- Agricultural Science
- Art and Music
- Economics (including tourism research)
- Environmental Science
- Humanities and social sciences
- Medicine
- Natural Sciences
- Technical Sciences
Eligible Costs
- The funding will cover travel and subsistence costs for a visit of up to four months.
- A funding of EUR 5,000-15,000 will be awarded for each successful application.
Application
- Applications must be jointly submitted by researchers of EPU member institutions in Austria and a counterpart outside Austria, including CUHK. CUHK faculty members should contact an EPU member institution in Austria to identify collaboration opportunities.
- The project duration should be one year from 1 January to 31 December 2024.
- Please submit an online application by 29 September 2023 (18:00 HKT).

CUHK-Stanford University CASBS Partner Fellowship Programme
CUHK and Stanford University’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) have a Partner Fellowship Programme which provides an opportunity for CUHK faculty members to take part in a residential fellowship at Stanford University that fosters interdisciplinary intellectual exchange and contributes to advancing research and thinking in the social sciences. The fellows represent the core social and behavioral sciences (anthropology, economics, geography, history, law, political science, psychology and sociology) as well as the humanities, education, linguistics, communications, and the biological, natural, health, and computer sciences. The selected fellows will spend nine months at CASBS, where they will meet with fellows from diverse academic disciplines worldwide. The programme will strengthen their academic network and facilitate collaborations across academia, policy, industry, civil society, and government to collectively design a better future.
The following provisions will be provided to the selected fellow under this fellowship programme:
- Salary at CUHK (provided on the basis of leave entitlement and on leave granted)
- Housing allowance (to be offered by CUHK. The fellow may also make a separate request to CASBS for an additional allowance)
- Relocation allowance (to be offered by CASBS)
- Research allowance (to be offered by CASBS)
The programme is now inviting applications for 2024-25 from full-time teaching appointees of Assistant Professor rank or above with at least three to four years past the doctorate or equivalent degree (official visit period: September 2024-May 2025). A*STAR Research Attachment Programme
The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore is calling for applications for the A*STAR Research Attachment Programme (ARAP). The programme supports collaboration between A*STAR and its partner universities, including CUHK. Under the programme, CUHK PhD students will pursue research for one to two years at A*STAR Research Institutes to deepen and broaden their research experience under the mentorship of researchers in Singapore.
Research areas
The attachments should fall under one of the following categories:
- Biomedical Sciences
- Computing and Information Sciences
- Engineering and Technology
- Physical Sciences
Funding support for PhD students
- Monthly stipend of S$2,700
- Monthly housing subsidy of S$600
- One-time airfare grant of S$1,500
- One-time settling-in allowance of S$1,000
- One-time IT allowance of S$800
- Medical insurance
- Conference allowance

- CUHK faculty members should contact the A*STAR researchers listed under the ARAP webpage to identify collaboration opportunities and conceptualize a joint project.

Essex International Visiting Fellowships
The University of Essex (Essex), UK is inviting applications to the Essex International Visiting Fellowships which provide funding support to selected researchers to spend between two and ten weeks at Essex. The programme aims to provide a platform for international academics to work with Essex academics on a research project or publication.
Visit Period (2nd call for 2023-24)
Between 19 February and 26 July 2024
Eligibility
- Researchers based outside the UK with excellent track record.
- Applications must be supported by a senior Essex academic.
- Students (e.g. undergraduate students, Master’s students, PhD students, and post-doctoral students) are NOT eligible.
Provision
- Return economy airfare to/from UK of up to GBP1500
- Off-campus in Colchester provided by Essex
- Stipend of GBP100 per week
