Instead of simply learning about CUHK’s student exchange programme online, Seika Takada, a prospective incoming exchange student from the International Christian University (ICU) in Japan, decided to visit CUHK and explore the campus firsthand. CUHK exchange returnee, Yee Tai Leung, a Year 4 Chinese Studies student, and Asuka Sakai, an incoming exchange student from ICU, served as ambassadors to lead Seika on a tour.

While on exchange at ICU in the previous academic year, Yee Tai developed a strong bonding with Asuka through group work in an Asian Studies course where there were only eight students. Small group teaching is adopted at ICU to enable students to build close relationships with their peers and professors.

On the tour, Seika was impressed by CUHK’s spacious campus and the stunning natural scenery. She was also particularly interested in the unique college system and the many varieties of college activities.

Yee Tai and Asuka also shared their insights from their exchange experiences. Yee Tai found that it was challenging to adjust to dormitory life but meeting international friends face-to-face during the pandemic was hugely valuable. Meanwhile, Asuka noted the cultural differences in terms of bedtime as Hong Kong students often stay up late while Japanese students normally do not.

Yee Tai enjoys meeting new friends from around the world during her time at ICU.

Seika left feeling excited for the international learning adventure. We look forward to welcoming her as an exchange student at CUHK soon!
