The CERN Teacher Programme (https://teacher-programmes.web.cern.ch/), first offered in 1998, has been extremely successful and popular among high school science teachers worldwide. Over 14,000 teachers have participated in this program. Teachers stay within the CERN campus during the full program to motivate interaction and discussion with lecturers and researchers and among themselves. A typical day in the program consists of lectures and Q&A sessions in the morning and visits to accelerators, hands-on workshops, and activities in the afternoon. In addition to the scheduled lectures and activities, the format of the program naturally allows the participants to carry on an informal discussion with lecturers and researchers during coffee breaks, lunch, and dinner times, which greatly adds to the experience, to their understanding of the material, and to the content that they can share with students when they return. During the program, all teachers will collaborate in several study groups on various topics related to particle physics and its integration in the classroom, and they will deliver their final reports after they are back in Hong Kong. The first-ever CERN Hong Kong Teacher Programme will take place from July 28 to August 2, 2024.
Application deadline: 5 pm, May 24, 2024 (Friday).
Selection Criteria: Subject expertise, track record for science education, commitment to implementing program knowledge in the classroom, and potential contributions to the program.
Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on June 1, 2024 (Saturday).
The CERN Teacher Programme (Hong Kong) is organized by Department of Physics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and sponsored by The Croucher Foundation.
