Our former PhD student Dr. Shen Guohao (currently an Assistant Professor in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University) who was supervised by Prof. Lin Yuanyuan was awarded the HKSS – John Aitchison Prize in Statistics, 2024. The Prize was established in 2022 by the Hong Kong Statistical Society (HKSS), to honour the distinguished career and contributions of Professor John Aitchison (1926-2016), Chair Professor of Statistics at the University of Hong Kong between 1976 and 1989 and founder and first President of the HKSS. The objective of the Prize is to reward excellence in PhD research, as demonstrated by a research paper, in Statistics or a closely related discipline.
The Teaching and Learning Innovation Expo is jointly organised by the Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research (CLEAR), Centre for eLearning Innovation and Technology (ELITE), and Information Technology Services Centre (ITSC) of CUHK. It provides an excellent mutually supportive platform for educators at CUHK, to share educational experiences and insights with the education community. Throughout the years, creative ideas or practices that lead to teaching and learning enhancement have been exchanged via conversation, interactive presentations and seminars at the event.

The Teaching and Learning Innovation Expo 2023 was held on 5 December 2023 and Dr. John Wright received the gold award for the poster called “Transforming teaching statistics to non-background students through bespoke training – lessons from five TAs” which refers to the Teaching Development and Language Enhancement Grant (TDLEG) project “Supporting statistics research postgraduates to teach quantitative data analysis to postgraduate students without statistics background”.

The University instituted the University Education Award in 2011-12 to honour teachers for outstanding commitment to the promotion of teaching excellence. Prof. Keith Chan attended the poster presentation at the Teaching and Learning Innovation Expo 2022 which was held from 14 Dec 2022 to 16 Dec 2022 and received “Educational Impact – Silver Award” for his e-learning platform (https://www1.sta.cuhk.edu.hk/stady/).
Every year the poster awards recognize the best efforts in teaching and learning in higher education, research, poster designs and presentations at the annual Teaching and Learning Innovation Expo.

Our student Zhang Wenyu (PhD in STAT) won the champion with his teammates in the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023 Hong Kong SAR and achieved the highest score among 600 participants. The champion team will represent HK to join a regional competition in February.
The Hong Kong Final Competition was held on 10 Dec 2022.

Our QFRM student Mr Cheung Chun Hin Angus was awarded the CUHK Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships for Excellence 2021/22.
The CUHK Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships for Excellence is a prestigious award that is presented annually to students with excellent academic achievements at entrance, academic results at CUHK, communication skills, track record of distinguished leadership and non-academic performance.
The presentation ceremony was held on 28 Sept 2022.

Young Researcher Award 2021: Prof. WEI Yingying
The Award was established in 2002 with the aim of recognising the research achievements of young faculty members of the University, and nominations from each Faculty features a young faculty who produces the best research output for the award.

in the Joint-University Algo FX Trading Challenge 2021 (Global) organised by Algo Challenge Association.

The Faculty’s annual postgraduate research day was held on Tuesday, 14 December 2021 in face-to-face mode. The event provided a platform for postgraduate students to gain exposure in the seminar, to present their innovative research results and to share research ideas and experiences.
Two students of our department were presented on the event and they both won the Presentation Award.

Professor Wong Hoi Ying has been awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award 2020 and the Faculty Exemplary Teaching Award 2020 in recognition of his distinguished teaching performance. The Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award is a prestigious award that is presented annually to outstanding teachers of the University, one from each of the eight Faculties and the General Education programme. The awardees’ achievements in teaching are considered by their peers and students to be of the highest order.
Professor CHAN Ngai Hang was awarded Journal of Time Series Analysis Distinguished Author Award in recognition of his significant contributions to the journal, based on publications appearing in Volumes 1–41 inclusive.
