The Centre for Population Research (CPR), formerly known as Research Centre on Migration and Mobility, was established in July 2016 by the Department of Sociology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The Centre has engaged in a wide range of research activities concerning the causes and consequences of migration in Hong Kong and other Asian countries.

In 2021, the centre has expanded its scope/objectives to population research and therefore has been renamed to CPR. The new objectives of the centre are:

1) to monitor population trends and support scientific analysis of their causes and consequences in the distinct contexts of Hong Kong, the Great Bay Area, and mainland China;

2) to promote comparative research with other regions in the world for studying the common population challenges in the world;

3) to provide a research platform for scholarly exchanges and collaboration among population scholars in Hong Kong;

4) to facilitate research impact by connecting population scholars and other stakeholders; and

5) to train graduate students at CUHK.
