個人簡介

Dr Maria Wai received her BSc. and MPhil. degrees from the University of Hong Kong, and her doctoral degree from the University of Rostock, Germany. Following her postgraduate studies, she continued her research in neuroscience having more than 50 publications to her credit after which she discovered her passion for medical education.

Currently, she serves as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, CUHK, in addition to holding prominent positions in various academic and curriculum committees at the Faculty of Medicine. Being a dedicated educator, she is enthused about academic teaching and support, development of teaching and learning methodologies, and pedagogical research.

Her subject expertise is human anatomy, and she is a member of the American Association for Anatomy and the Royal Society of Biology (UK). She has been diligently imparting her knowledge of gross anatomy, histology, and neuroanatomy to medical and non-medical undergraduate and postgraduate students at CUHK for more than two decades. She has been the recipient of the best teacher award by the Faculty of Medicine for three consecutive years from 2005-2008.

In addition to being a pre-clinical academic advisor and coordinator for the Academic Support Team of the School, she is the course coordinator for two anatomy courses for the students of Medicine in Year 1 and 2, and appointed the overall coordinator for the Year 3 students of Medicine. Her rich experience in human body dissection motivates her to conduct numerous training workshops grooming new anatomists and educators at the School of Biomedical Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine.
