The School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) admitted its first cohort of twenty-eight students to the BSc in Biomedical Sciences Programme in September 2016.
Shortly after making admission offers, these new students were invited to take part in various orientation activities, e.g. the "2016-17 Academic Counselling Session for New Full-time Undergraduate Students" held on 12 August 2016 and the two-day "Undergraduate Biomedical Sciences Introductory Programme" held on 22 and 23 August 2016. During the first event, Prof. Fung Kwok-pui, Programme Director of the BSc in Biomedical Sciences Programme, Dr. Ann S.N. Lau, Assistant Director (Undergraduate Education - BSc in Biomedical Sciences Programme) and members of our Teaching and Learning Unit introduced to the new students the first year courses and some important features of the Programme. Postgraduate students of SBS also participated in the session to share their study experiences with the new students. For the second event, it featured different activities such as further introduction of SBS and the Programme, ice-breaking games, BBQ Gala Night, mentor-mentee matching, conducting their first biomedical sciences-related experiment, etc., so as to offer the newly admitted students the opportunity to get acquainted with their academic advisors and their academic peers.
Apart from the above orientation activities organized for our first cohort of BSc students, the School was also actively engaged in other programme outreach activities , e.g. the "Programme Exploration Day for JUPAS Applicants" coordinated by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (OAFA), The Chinese University of Hong Kong on 16 May 2016, and a visit to SBS by a group of around 30 Year 12 IB (Form 5) students of King George V School on 20 June 2016.
