Dr. Isabel S.S. Hwang, Senior Lecturer and Dr. Florence M.K. Tang, Lecturer of the School of Biomedical Sciences jointly obtained two courseware development grants from the University Grants Committee under the Special Funding Scheme to Enhance Student Engagement and Address Student Learning Needs supported by the Teaching Development and Language Enhancement Grant (TDLEG) 2019-22, and under the Funding Scheme for Virtual Teaching and Learning, with a total amount of about HK$364,000.

Dr. Hwang and Dr. Tang received HK$299,500 for the awarded project of Funding Scheme for Virtual Teaching and Learning entitled “Remodeling of Health Professional Education: Real Time Three-dimensional (3D) Gamification for Student Engagement in Virtual Learning Environment”. In this study, the team will incorporate real-time gamified elements by using the virtual or augmented technologies in the pedagogy to translate learning of Anatomy and Physiology into practice progressing from each stage through continuous stimulation of perception, application of knowledge, reaction to new information, reward motivation, and higher-order thinking.

Another awarded project under the Special Funding Scheme to Enhance Student Engagement and Address Student Learning Needs entitled “Micro-Module Video Scenarios in Sensitive Communication Situations with Student Response Questions (Phase 2)” has been funded with an amount of HK$64,320. Based on the six micro-modules developed in Phase 1, which is an online series of short video scenarios and formative assessments provided to undergraduates, this Phase 2 project aims to add two new micro-modules in “genetic counselling” and “scientific data interpretation” to teach students the effective communication with different parties.
