New Asia Students' Union
NASU

New Asia College Students’ Union (NASU) was established on 11 July 1964. It is the highest self-governing organization for students of the College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. With the adoption of the system of separation of powers, NASU is composed of a Council, an Executive Committee and a Judicial Committee. The purpose of NASU is to promote the spirit of democracy and members’ welfare, to act as a bridge between the University and members, to enhance members’ social awareness, and to promote moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic education.

New Asia Kung Fu Society

Year of establishment: 1979

 

Purpose

Promote the quintessence of Chinese culture, in particular martial arts and culture

 

Annual Activities

Regular martial arts classes (Choy Lee Fut style), lion dancing and musical classes, special classes of ”flying chopsticks” and martial art performances

Chinese Music Society of New Asia College

Year of establishment: 1960

 

Purpose

Learn and promote Chinese music by organizing regular Chinese instrument classes to cultivate students’ interest and performance skills, as well as Chinese music concerts to enhance communications among members

 

Annual Activities

Represent CUHK or New Asia College to perform Chinese music at various opening events, welcoming parties and exchange activities with off-campus groups

New Asia Drama Club

Year of establishment: 1961

 

Purpose

Cultivate students’ interest in theatre arts by engaging in various on and off-campus theatrical performances and related activities

 

Annual Activities

Three drama productions are launched annually, including the CUHK Drama Competition, the joint-school drama production and the annual performance

New Asia Speech and Debate Team

Year of establishment: 2003

 

Purpose

Debating is a meaningful activity which cultivates critical thinking and motivates students to learn. Debaters are equipped with the ability of independent thinking and self-learning. The debating team is more than a team, but also a learning community.

College Assembly Match, friendly matches, CUHK Internal Debate Tournament and training camps

New Asia Rotaract Club

Year of establishment: 2003

 

Purpose

Provide teenagers with the opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in order to promote their personal growth and address the current needs of society. Through fostering friendships and providing different services, relationships among people around the globe is strengthened.

 

Annual Activities

Workshops, service trips, Joint-university High Table Dinner, concerts

New Asia Astronomy Club

Year of establishment: 1977

 

Purpose

Encourage students to explore the beauty of astronomy and enhance students’ interest towards it. A wide variety of activities are organized so that students can enjoy leisure time whereas like-minded students can be brought together.

 

Annual Activities

Joint-society activities, joint-university astronomy programme, overseas astronomy trip and cuttlefish fishing

New Asia Band

Year of establishment: 2012

 

Purpose

Promote different styles of music, cultivate students’ interest towards music by enhancing their knowledge of different music styles, agglomerate music lovers and provide a bridge of communication

 

Annual Activities

Music concerts, regular busking and musical instrumental classes to promote different music styles and instruments

New Asia Toastmasters Club

Year of establishment: 2007

 

Purpose

Enable members from diverse backgrounds to become more confident speakers, communicators and leaders, through formal meetings and various learning activities

 

Annual Activities

Regular meetings and workshops, joint-club meetings and speech contests

Mainland and Undergraduate Association

Year of establishment: 2017

 

Purpose

Serve Mainland students, in particular enabling them to understand Hong Kong culture and integrate into Hong Kong society, and to promote cultural exchanges

 

Annual Activities

Mainland students’ College Day, festive events, off-campus leisure tours, exercise and sports activities (“check-in” on social media)

New Asia Non-residential Hall

Year of establishment: 1994

 

Purpose

Provide a place for members to rest and gather, foster members’ affiliation with each other and promote members’ sense of belonging to the College

 

Annual Activities

Evening concerts, orientation night,  bazaar, Christmas Party and Lunar New Year reunion dinner
