校長報告 9 VICE-CHANCELLOR' S REVIE W 敎師踴躍參加研討會,了解全校通用的網上敎學平台。 A seminar introducing the university-wide web-based teaching platform 本科生,和二零零零至二零零一年度及以後入學的研究生, 必須通過資訊科技能力測試,或修畢相關的暑期精修課程, 方符合畢業要求。 另外,於九七年中開始實施的語文改善計劃,其架構亦有不 少改動,目的是加強普通話、粤語及英語精修課程的內容, 以及改善語文敎學單位和書院之間的分工。中大將竭盡全 力,為廿一世紀的香港培育精通中英文及資訊科技的人才, 維持特區的競爭優勢。 教學新方式 資訊時代的來臨和互聯網的普及,使敎學工作產生了極大變 化。以往的敎學著重課堂講解,如今則重視培養學生的獨立 分析和自學能力,不少敎師更利用多媒體兼互動的網上敎 學,去補充傳統講課之不足。他們的新角色是輔導學生透過 電腦互相分享,並激發更深更廣的討論。 為了協助敎師應用資訊科技及適應新的敎學文化,校方於年 中舉辦了大大小小的工作坊和訓練計劃,又於一九九九年 九月設立一個試驗性的通用電腦平台,免費供敎師申請使 用,讓他們利用先進科技輔助敎學。截至二零零零年四月, 採用網上敎學的科目已達五百個,正在籌備上網的亦有近一 students learn effectively i n b o th English an d Chinese, an d t o n u r t u re mo re talent w i t h 'trilingual' skill s — talent w h oar em u ch needed b y th e H K S A R t o sustain it s competitive edge i n th e 21s t century. New Approaches t o Teaching an dLearning T he advent o f th e I n f o r ma t i on Ag e an d th e Internet ha s also ignificantly impacted o n teaching, th e emphasis o f w h i c h ha s shifted f r o m lecturing t o th e n u r t u r i ng o f critical analysis skills an d a spirit o f self-learning. Traditional classroom instruction i s n o w complemented b y multi-media, interactive on-line teaching, an d th e teachertakes o n the additional role o f a mediator, facilitating discussion and c ommu n i c a t i on w i t h an d among th e students. T o help teachers adjust t o this n e w culture an d t o incorporate I T i n to their teaching, workshops an d training sessions were organized f o r t h em t h r o u g h o ut th e year. A university-wide experimental p l a t f o rm wa s se t u p i n September 199 t o allow t h em t o use advanced instructional technologies i n web-based teaching. B y A p r i l 2000, some 500 courses offered b y academic departments ha d gone on-line, w i th another 18 0 preparing t o f o l l ow suit. A n Academic I T Steering Comm i t t ee wa s established under the University's I T Policy Comm i t t ee i n A p r i l 2000 to oversee th e us e o f I T i n teaching an d learning. A t th e same time, teaching enhancement workshops an d experience-sharing sessions were regularly organized f o r teaching staff b y th e Teaching Development U n i t, w h i c h was restructured during th e year t o become a central service u n it charged w i t h enhancing th e awareness among teaching staff o f th e importance o f good teaching. T he Vice-Chancellor's E x emp l a ry Teaching Awa r ds were presented f o r t h e first t i me i n M a y 2000 t o si x teachers f r o m different disciplines. T he scheme, similar t o other award systems a t th e faculty level, wa s se t u p t o reiterate th e University's f i r m c omm i t me nt t o quality teaching an d to give open recognition t o outstanding teachers. Qu a l i ty teaching ha s already become a strongly entrenched culture a t Th e Chinese Un i v e r s i ty o f H o n g K o n g, an d is expected to contribute significantly t o o ur educational endeavour s i n th e n e w m i l l e n n i um.
