Biology Students Receive Croucher Scholarships to Study at Top Universities Abroad Four final year M.Phil. students i n the Department of Biology were awarded the prestigious Croucher Foundation Overseas S c h o l a r s h i ps i n 2003 to p u r s ue Ph . D. studies at top universities abroad, w i t h f u ll f i n a n c i al s u p p o r t f r o m t he C r o u c h er Foundation. Two other M.Phil. graduates f r o m t he s ame d e p a r t m e nt h a d b e en awarded the same scholarship i n 2002. A m o n g these six awardees, f i ve are g r a d u a te s t u d e n ts associated w i t h t he UGC A r ea of Excellence ( AoE) o n Plant and Fu n g al Biotechnology adm i n i s t e r ed by the Depa r tment of Biology. The A c a d emy of Ma n a g eme nt is the oldest and largest scholarly association i n the field of management studies i n the wo r ld and has over 13,850 members f r om 91 nations. Engineering Students Win Nanotechnology and Robotics Awards Ms. Carmen K .M. Fung and Mr. H o y i n Chan, doctoral students conducting research at the Centre for Micro and Nano Systems, w o n prestigious awards at top international conferences for their research projects. Ms. Fung received the Best Student Poster Paper Aw a r d for her w o r k on nanosensors at the I E EE I n t e r n a t i o n a l C o n f e r e n ce o n Nanotechnology, the top annual conference for nanotechnologists across the world. Mr. Chan w o n the Best Conference Paper Awa rd f r om the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Au t oma t i on (ICRA), the most widely attended international conference for leading robotics experts, for his w o r k on biological cell manipulation.
