Prof. Ma rk O.M. Tso, department head Prof. Tso was professor of ophthalmology at the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC) for 18 years from 1976 to 1994. He was also director of UIG's Macula Clinic and its Georgiana Theobald Ophthalmic Pathology Laboratory. He has spent over 30 years on research in ophthalmic pathology, ocular oncology, and retinal diseases. Prof. Ernst Goldschmidt, professor Prof. Goldschmidt was formerly professor of ophthalmology at Odense University, Copenhagen. He has a distinguished career in clinical medicine and research. Appointed professor of ophthalmology by the University of Hong Kong in 1992, he has been seconded to The Chinese University since early 1994. His major research interest is in the pathogenesis of myopia. Dr. Dennis Lam, lecturer A graduate of the University of Hong Kong, Dr. Dennis Lam received specialist training in ophthamology in the United Kingdom and the United States. His areas of special expertise are cataract and refractive surgery, corneal transplant, ptosis operation, and laser treatment for various eye conditions. He is actively involved in myopia research. Dr. Lam was recently selected one of the 'Ten Outstanding Young Persons of 1994 of Hong Kong'. Dr. John J. Michon, lecturer Dr. Michon took his MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago. Before coming to Hong Kong, he served at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute of the Johns Hopkins Hospital at Baltimore, and the Doheny Eye Institute of the University of Southern California School of Medicine at Los Angeles. Dr. Michon has special interest in reconstructive surgery, neuro-ophthalmology and diabetic eye diseases. Dr. Chanet Suvarnamani, lecturer Dr. Suvarnamani graduated from the Mahidol University School of Medicine in Bangkok, Thailand. He received training in eye oncology and oculoplastics at the Wills Eye Hospital, and in vitreoretinal surgery at the Temple Hospital in Philadelphia. He also completed a research fellowship in ophthalmic pathology from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Prof. Guy Chan, visiting scholar Prof. Chan was former chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Temple University Medical School, Philadelphia. His major interest is ophthalmic education for medical students and physicians in training for opthalmology. His specialities include cataract and intraocular lens implantation, corneal transplant, glaucoma surgery, paediatric and adult strabismus problems. Prof. Wen-ji Wang, visiting scholar Prof. Wang graduated from Shanghai Medical College (now renamed Shanghai Medical University) and pursued studies in eye pathology and vitreoretinal diseases in the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Retina Association in Boston, USA. She was also a visiting scholar at the Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK. Before joining this university, she was professor and director of the Ophthalmology Department at the Eye and ENT Hospital of the Shanghai Medical University.
