* The Department of Paediatrics organized a lecture on ‘The maternal and child health service in Hong Kong: past, present and future' by Dr. Pansy Lai, Principal Medical Officer, Family Health Services, Medical and Health Department, on 29th December. * The Department of Music organized the following lectures and recitals: —A piano lecture-recital on ‘A musical portrait of Clara Schumann' by Ms. Rosemarie Wright, a famous pianist, on 3rd November. —A lecture on 'The concept of orchestral conducting in general' by Mr. Yondani Butt, a famous conductor, on 5th November. —The following demonstration-lectures were jointly organized with Hong Kong Society for Ethnomusicology: (a) ‘Field experience of Chinese minority music' by Professor Shen Qia, Director and Associate Professor of the Institute of Ethnic Music Studies, the Chinese Music Conservatory, China, on 18th November. (b) Tradition and style of Chinese music' by Professor Li Huanzhi, Chairman of the Chinese Musicians' Association, and Professor Huang Xiangpeng, Chairman of the Chinese Traditional Music Society and Director of the Institute of Ethnic Music Studies, China, on 19th November. (c) ‘Style of wind and percussion ensemble music' by Professor Yuan Jing-fang, Associate Professor of the Central Conservatory of Music and Vice- Chairman of the Chinese Traditional Music Society, on 20th November. 一 A piano recital performed by Mr. Robin Zebaida, a well-known pianist, on 19th November. —The following two lectures were jointly organized with the Hong Kong Music Education Society on 27th November: (a) 'How to train a school choir and perform other extracurriculum activities' by Professor Harold Abeles, Professor of Music and Music Education and Chairman of the Department of Music and Arts in Education at the Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. (b) ‘Piano pedagogy' by Dr. Robert Pace, Executive Director of the International Piano Teaching Foundation. —A violin lecture-recital on 'Style and ornamentation in Mozart's piano and violin duo- sonatas' by Professor Josef Aronoff, Professor of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, UK, on 1st December. —A Music Workshop performed by the National University of Singapore Chinese Orchestra on 17th December. * The Art Gallery staged an exhibition of 'Selections from the Art Gallery Collection' from 19th December, 1987 to May 1988. Exhibits ranging from ceramics, paintings and calligraphy, bronzes, jades to lacquers and objects for the scholar's studio were on display.
