F r a n k l in Wo o represented C h u ng C h i College and H o n g K o n g at the Ecumenical Strategy Consultation for the Academic W o r l d in Asia T o - d ay held at the F o r t u na Ho t el in K o w l o o n, j o i n t ly sponsored by the W o r l d Student Christian Federation and the East Asia Christian Conference. T h e Consultation lasted f r om No v emb er 6 to 13. O n N o v emb er 10 , approximately 50 members for the Consultation f r om Australia, Bu r ma, Ceylon, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, N e w Zealand, Parkistan (West), Philippines, T a i wa n, and T h a i l a nd visited C h u ng C h i College. T h e guests were entertained at a tea reception held in the Chapel L o u n ge and followed by a dinner in their honour at the Shatin F l o a t i ng Restaurant. • T h e Re c r u i t me nt Ex am i n a t i on for the award of a scholarship donated by the Ya l e - i n - Ch i na Association was held on No v emb er 7 at N ew Asia College. T h e successful candidate w o u l d acquire an o p p o r t u n i ty of p u r s u i ng higher studies at a university in the U n i t ed States. • D r . Peter Fenshem, Senior L e c t u r er in Ch em i s t r y, Un i v e r s i ty of Me l b o u r n e, gave a lecture on " E l e c t r on Sp in Resonance and Its Ap p l i c a t i on in the Research of Catalysis" to the staff and students of the Ch em i s t ry De p a r t me nt of C h u ng C hi College on No v emb er 9 in the Physics L e c t u re Ha l l. • D r . H . H . H o , L e c t u r er in Physics of N e w Asia College, recently had a paper published in the Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers in L o n d o n on “ A Sine Wa ve Silicon Co n t r o l l ed Recifier Parallel I n v e r t or w i t h I mp r o v ed C o mm u t a t i o n" (Paper N o . 378.) • D r . Tam Shang Wa i, L e c t u r er of the Ch em i s t ry De p a r t me n t, C h u ng C h i College, had a paper published on “ N e w Alkaloids f r om H o n g K o n g Plants" ( w i th H . R . A r t h u r, et al.), Phytochemistry, Vol. 5 , 379-383 (1966). • A s ymp o s i um on the economic position of H o n g K o n g was held on No v emb er 23, 1966 at U n i t ed College, T h e f u n c t i on was jointly organized by the Economic Societies of N ew Asia College and U n i t ed College. T w o papers were read at this s ymp o s i um: ‘ ‘ T h e General Situation of T o u r i sm in H o n g K o n g " , and “ S h o u ld H o n g K o n g A d o pt the Protective Po l i c y ? ". T h i s was followed by a discussion in w h i ch most of the students present took part. • T h e H i s t o ry Society of U n i t ed College invited D r . Jenome Chen, Reader in H i s t o ry at the Un i v e r s i ty of Leeds, to deliver a lecture on ‘ ‘ T he Co n s t i t u t i o n al Structure of the Go v e r nme n ts of M o d e rn C h i n a" on No v emb er 25, 1966 at the College, T h i s was the first of a series of p u b l ic lectures sponsored by the Society. • T h e f o l l ow i ng f o ur students of the C h u ng C h i College have been awarded the H o n g K o n g & Shanghai Bank Social W o r k Scholarships for 1967: (1) M i ss Chiang Shin M e i (4th year) (2) M r . C h ow C h u n C h ow (4th year) (3) M i ss W o n g Sh ui (3rd year) (4) M i ss Lau C h u i H i n g (3rd year) T h e H o n g K o n g & Shanghai Ba n k i ng Co r p o r a t i on has donated a f u n d to the Un i v e r s i ty sufficient to b r i ng i n an annual income of H K $ 2 0 , 0 00 to be used for f o ur scholarships awarded to the 3rd and 4 th year students in Social Wo r k. • A b o ut sixty Geography students of C h u ng C h i College have participated in the field w o rk for the U r b an L a n d - u se Survey and M a p p i ng since the beginning of this t e rm. T h i s project is supervised by M r . C.S. L i a n g, the College's L e c t u r er in Geography, w i t h the assistance of t wo tutors, M r . S.F. L e o ng and M r . H . Y . Cheung, and it aims to study the commercial, residential and i n d u s t r i al structures of the t w i n conurbation of H o n g K o n g and K o w l o o n. I t is expected that the survey of T s i ms h a t s ui and Ya uma t ei districts w i ll be completed before the end of this year. • A Vocal Recital by Helen S am - L am, a graduate of the Conservatorio di Santa Ceciliá, Rome, and the Akademie für Musik, Vienna, w i t h her husband M r . L a m Hu n g - h ee at the piano, was given in the evening of No v emb er 25’ 1966 in the C h u ng C hi College Chapel. M r . L a m is a piano teacher in the Mu s ic De p a r t me nt of the College. A Contestants f r om the three F o u n d a t i on Colleges of the Un i v e r s i ty and the Un i v e r s i ty of H o n g K o n g took part in the First I n t e r - U n i v e r s i ty and I n t e r - Co l l e ge JudoContest sponsored by the Student U n i o n of N e w Asia on No v emb er 12. T h e N ew Asia team was the w i n n er w i t h the U n i t ed College team as the runner u p. A T h e eighth annual mo u n t a in race of C h u ng C h i College was held on No v emb er 14.
